If your business has closed or moved, you should not simply delete your Google Business Profile without properly marking the status. Customers may still be searching for you, and an abandoned listing creates confusion.
To mark a business as permanently closed, sign into your Business Profile, go to Business information, and find the “Close or remove this listing” option. Select “Mark as permanently closed.” Your listing will remain on Maps but will be clearly marked as closed, which prevents customers from making wasted visits.
If you want to completely remove the listing, select “Remove listing” instead. Be aware that Google may re-create the listing from third-party data sources even after removal, so marking as permanently closed is often more effective than full removal.
If a listing exists for your location that you did not create and cannot claim because someone else owns it, you can report it through Google Maps by clicking “Suggest an edit” and flagging it as a duplicate or an incorrect listing.
For multi-location brands managing dealer networks, a dealer who stops carrying your brand or closes their location creates a listing that still shows your brand association. Having a process to update or remove these listings promptly is important for both customer experience and brand reputation.
