Google My Business, officially renamed Google Business Profile in 2021, is a free platform that allows businesses to control their presence in Google Search and Google Maps.
When someone searches for your business by name or searches for businesses like yours in a specific location, the information Google shows, including your address, phone number, hours, photos, and reviews, comes from your Business Profile. Without a claimed and managed profile, Google compiles whatever information it can find from other sources, which is often incomplete or incorrect.
A Business Profile lets you verify that the information shown is accurate, respond to customer reviews, post updates and offers, add photos, list your services and products, and see how customers are finding and interacting with your listing.
For enterprise brands, the platform matters at two levels. At the brand level, it provides a presence for your main business. At the location level, each dealer or franchise outlet should have its own listing that shows accurate local information and is managed to reflect the brand’s standards.
The platform is free. The challenge at scale is not the cost but the operational discipline required to keep hundreds of listings accurate, active, and consistently managed.
