A Google Business Profile is a free listing that controls how your business appears when people search on Google. It shows in the Local Pack (the map with three businesses that appears at the top of local search results), in Google Maps, and as a panel when someone searches your business name directly.
Without a claimed Business Profile, Google may still show a basic listing based on information it has collected from other sources. That listing is likely to be incomplete, potentially inaccurate, and not managed by you. Customers who find it cannot be confident the phone number is correct or that the hours are current.
A claimed and managed profile gives you control. You confirm your accurate information. You can respond to reviews. You can post updates. You can add photos that represent your business well. And you have access to insights about how customers are finding and interacting with your listing.
For businesses in competitive local categories, a well-managed Business Profile is often the difference between appearing in the Local Pack or not. The Local Pack receives the majority of clicks on local search results pages. Not appearing there means customers looking for exactly what you offer are finding your competitors first.
